Work placements in Canada
The International Master’s in Design, offered by the ESDL since 2013, trains future graduates to work with international companies based in France and abroad. In order to put theory into practice this curriculum includes a work placement of 4 to 6 months in Canadian companies.
This work placement is an opportunity for the students to apply and confront their knowledge with the professional realities in a global economic stage in which environmental constraints are now a major challenge in the development of innovative projects.
Partnerships with foreign schools
For the last two years, the ESDL has developed 3 principal partnerships with foreign Design schools in Europe and North America : The Windesheim University in Holland, The Mondragon University in Spain, and the Cegep Beauce-Appalaches in Saint-Georges in Canada.
These very dynamic partnerships result in the setting up of inter-school workshops mostly held in English as the lingua franca and based on real company problematics. The students are put into mixed groups and have to develop a common project which responds to a real issue such as they might encounter in their career.
The ESDL also utilises these close ties to exchange with their partners on new teaching and learning practices with the aim of continually improving the standards of the training it offers to its students.
Student exchanges will be developed with these schools at the end of 2016.
These international initiatives concern students in their second year of the Bachelor course until the second year of the Master’s course
Member of the Cumulus network
Access to the biggest international design schools
The CUMULUS network was founded on the initiative of the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Finland, in 1990.
This association, which includes the world’s greatest design schools such as the Royal College of Art in London, the Politecnico di Milano in Italy, the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, USA, or the Boulle School in Paris, has developed an excellent spirit of cooperation in meeting the needs of its members and developing design at an international level.
The Chamber of Commerce ESDL (Landes Graduate Design School) was admitted to this international network in June 2013 as an Associated Member in Kalmar (Sweden) and this membership is an excellent opportunity for our international development.
CUMULUS is in fact an outstanding network which enables and facilitates student and teacher exchanges with businesses spanning 42 countries.
The CUMULUS members meet twice a year in the different member schools to compare their work on pedagogy and research in the subject of design and their relationships with the industrial fabric which surrounds them.
A Global conference in the Landes in 2018 !
The ESDL has been chosen to host the Cumulus network’s global conference in the spring of 2018. This general assembly will reunite more than 200 representatives of schools from all over the world. An event of international dimensions which will ensure the ESDL’s renown beyond our national boundaries.
